Working with Boards and the Desk

1. What is the difference between Boards and the Desk?

Boards and the desk share most features. You can have multiple collaborative boards, but there is only one personal desk.

The desk is a personal board, giving you your own space to organize as you like. Many people use it to track ongoing work, manage tasks, or jot down quick notes.

Boards are usually used as projects, where you keep docs that are related to each other.

2. How do I create a new Board?

You can quickly create a new board by using the "New Board" button wherever you are in the product. It's located in the top right corner, next to your profile. Clicking it will create a new board and take you to it automatically.

From within a board, you can create a new board by clicking "Create New Board" in the board toolbar.

3. How can I arrange things on my Desk or Boards?

The items you put on your board (or desk) is a block. This is true whether it's a text block, a doc or another board.

All blocks can be combined and stacked. E.g., by dragging a text block into a doc block, you add that text into your doc. If you instead drag the block just outside of the doc, it will stack with the doc block.

All blocks can be arranged vertically by dragging and dropping, and the purple drop indicator will show you where it will attach.

4. How do I add Docs (or other Boards) from my Library to my Board?

This can be accomplished in different ways.

  • You can drag and drop docs and boards from your left-hand sidebar. Simply drag items from your Recents or Starred section.

  • You can use the spotlight search at the top of your app to find your doc or board, and the "Add to Board" button to add it on your board. Use your cursor to place it on your board.

5. How can I share a Board?

In the top left corner of your board, next to its name, is a menu where you can Star, Share, Copy board link, and Delete your board.

Choosing Share, you can input the email addresses of the person you would like to share the board with. Once added, their Scrintal account will have access to your board.

You can get the link to your board by using the "Copy board link" option.
